A green finger of fields and wetland beside the River Avon.
The area, on the banks of the River Avon, includes a shared cycle/foot path allowing a car free, accessible route from the city centre to Batheaston and beyond towards Bradford-on-Avon via the Limpley Stoke Valley.
This stretch of riverside is a beautiful place to stop and look for wildlife – expect water birds, dragonflies, butterflies and wildflowers. Part of the land is looked after by the Friends of Bathampton Meadows Riverside volunteers and you’ll also find a secret garden in Batheaston, looked after by Batheaston Gardening Group. Further east there is an Avon Wildlife Trust wetland nature reserve (visits by arrangement only).
If travelling through, pause here and explore the villages of Batheaston, Bathampton and Bathford. Or use it as a starting point for a walk to Little Solsbury Hill, St Catherine’s Valley or Brown’s Folly.
