Sitting on a flat hilltop, Charmy Down centres on a derelict 1940s airfield and has views to distant skylines all around it.

The majority of the plateau area still retains a strong airfield character and a sense of the historical use of the plateau in World War 2. The runways remain visible and derelict airfield buildings such as the control tower, old hangars and gun emplacements still exist.

It feels remote here, all the better to enjoy the calcareous grassland and listen to the skylarks.

Charmy Down is separated from Little Solsbury Hill by Chilcombe Bottom, and there is much to explore in the area, worthy of many repeat visits.
