The River Avon runs through the heart of Bath, and is one of the city’s most defining features. The transition from urban to natural along its extent within the Bathscape makes for a popular walking trail with both residents and tourists alike.
The river’s source is up in the Cotswold hills and it flows through Bath and Bristol before meeting the Severn Estuary at Avonmouth.
There are riverside paths along much of the river through Bath from Newbridge in the west to Batheaston and beyond in the east. You can explore the villages of Batheaston, Bathampton and Bathford easily from the river, or carry on into the Limpley Stoke Valley.
There is a walking trail for the Newbridge section here or you can explore the whole River Avon Trail here.
