Canals, Railways and History

This is the second of two walks over a weekend to walk the whole of the Circuit of Bath route. We start from the public car park at Batheaston. You will need to park on local roads as the car park has a three-hour limit and the walk will be longer than this. We cross the River Avon and walk across the National Trust’s Bathampton Meadows, we then walk along the Kennet and Avon canal to the Brassknocker Basin. We then follow the Midford Brook to Monkton Combe through Tucking Mill to Midford. After following the route of the disused Somersetshire Coal Canal we’ll climb up to the Millenium View Point and then it’s a short level walk to Odd Down Park and Ride. Guided by your walk leaders we will return to the start point in Batheaston using public transport. Bring snacks and a packed lunch.

The walk is approximately 9.5 miles and will take at least five hours (10am to 3pm). The meeting point is Batheaston car park (public transport is best, as you can’t leave your car there all day, or park considerately on nearby streets, check parking restrictions). W3W – blog.smug.sheet. And the finish point is Odd Down Park and Ride. From there you can travel back (with the walk leader) to Batheaston via public transport and the city centre.

The walk leader for both days is Steve Holbrow, Cotswold Voluntary Wardens.

It’s helpful to book, so that we can give you last minute joining instructions and contact you if we need to. If you have any queries, please contact Bathscape on 01225 477265 or drop us an email at info@bathscape.co.uk
