Overlooking the valley of the River Avon is the Little Down Hillfort. A classic example of a hillfort, and potentially dating back as far as the iron age, this monument is steeped in history with archaeological and environmental evidence of construction and domestic arrangements.
The Fort, to the west of Bath Racecourse, is accessed on foot on the Cotswold Way, or directly up the hill from the village of North Stoke. It sits on the edge of the Lansdown Plateau with views across to Bristol and Wales.
The Plateau – the area north-west of Lansdown Park and Ride – has many footpaths crossing it, so it’s the perfect location for flatter walks with views of the city.
